Rooftop Maxeon to provide support for SunPower solar panels in wake of bankruptcy Paul Gerke 9.3.2024 Share There’s a lot of confusion in the aftermath of SunPower Corporation declaring Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August, especially on behalf of customers using the company’s technology. Maxeon Solar Technologies, which spun out of SunPower in 2020, is providing some peace of mind. The company is notifying dealers, installers, and homeowners in the United States that it will provide support for SunPower-branded solar panels that were made by Maxeon. “If you own a SunPower residential solar system, the system may include solar panels made by Maxeon Solar Technologies, an independent company,” reads part of a letter sent to customers. “Rest assured, Maxeon will provide warranty support for SunPower-branded solar panels made by Maxeon…” The Singapore-headquartered Maxeon was SunPower’s primary provider of solar panels through March 2024, when the companies decided to end an exclusive agreement. It is possible that a SunPower system was installed with panels made by another company, in which case this warranty would not apply. “We want to do the right thing to reassure those who may be facing uncertainty, and support homeowners and dealer/installer partners who purchased SunPower solar systems,” a Maxeon spokesperson told Renewable Energy World. Maxeon has launched a webpage indicating it will provide warranty support for SunPower-branded solar panels as follows: Systems Installed Before August 5, 2024 If your SunPower residential solar system was installed by an approved SunPower dealer or installer before August 5, 2024, please register your system via the form on the site by December 31, 2024. Systems Installed On or After August 5, 2024 If your SunPower residential solar system was installed by a Maxeon Preferred Partner on or after August 5, 2024, your Maxeon Preferred Partner will register the solar panel warranty with Maxeon and you will receive a warranty certificate. You do not need to register via the form on the site. Maxeon encourages anyone having issues with a SunPower system to contact your solar installer. Maxeon will work with your installer to support any applicable warranty coverage and will outline its new coverage on a Maxeon warranty document, which will be available soon on Maxeon’s website.
