Solar RE+ is right around the corner, here’s some stuff to look out for Paul Gerke 9.5.2024 Share RE+, the largest clean energy event in North America, takes over the Anaheim Convention Center next week, September 9-12, 2024. This year’s RE+ 24 is set to be larger and more comprehensive than ever before, taking over the entire Anaheim Convention Center (ACC) & Campus, including the ACC North Hall, ACC Arena, Hilton Anaheim, Anaheim Marriott, Marriott Outdoor Pavilion, Sheraton, and Grand Plaza. I’ll be heading out to California to spend a few days scoping out the newest and shiniest offerings of the renewable energy industry while chatting with the people on the cutting edge of America’s clean tech transition. You can expect to find some of my musings and discoveries in live daily blogs here on Renewable Energy World. RE+ should attract upwards of 40,000 attendees and thousands of exhibitors. Needless to say, there’s a lot going on. No preview of the event could possibly be all-encompassing, but here are some of the things I’ll be keeping an eye on in Anaheim. Monday, September 9 The Department of Energy’s Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) is hosting a pair of workshops Monday. Deep Dive on Solutions for Interconnection Innovation and Standards for Reliability Improvement (8:00-Noon) tees up DOE’s Interconnection Innovation e-Xchange to share and discuss the newly released Transmission Interconnection Roadmap, the launch of the Forum for the Implementation of Reliability Standards for Transmission, and industry collaboration for revision and development of new reliability standards. Equitable Solar at Scale: Leveraging Public and Private Capital to Deploy Solar and Storage with Meaningful Benefits (12:30-4:30 p.m.) will discuss how to leverage incentives such as the Investment Tax Credit, EPA’s $27 billion Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund awards, and state incentives to deliver on the promise of distributed solar for all. Courtesy: Anaheim Transportation Network / REC Solar The Anaheim Transportation Network and REC Solar invite attendees to check out “The Charge,” the region’s first solar-powered EV charging hub. This facility will provide charging for ATN’s fleet of 80 battery electric buses. One-hour exclusive tours will take you behind-the-scenes and provide access to ATN leadership. 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm, Anaheim Marriott The Enphase Training Van is returning to RE+. It is a fully-functioning and US-made Enphase Energy System, allowing visitors to interact with the latest IQ8 Microinverter and IQ Battery 5P, IQ EV Charger, and IQ8 Commercial Microinverter. Schneider Electric is making two announcements this week. One is a turnkey charging solution for the growing EV market that offers durability, fast setup, and integrated support for commercial EV charging. The other is being billed as “new details” around the availability of its Schneider Home solution. The American Solar Grazing Association is debuting a new documentary film, “Green Energy, Greener Pastures: The Powerful Story of Solar Grazing in America.” The documentary premier will be held at 5:00 pm in the Anaheim Marriott Orange County Ballroom 2. There will be a second viewing Tuesday at 1:00 pm at the Installations and Operations Theater. RE+ is throwing a “Cheers to 20 Years” Anniversary Party at the House of Blues, featuring musical acts Smash Mouth and Ashley Cooke. This is expected to sell out, so if you want to sing “All Star” with renewable energy colleagues, you should plunk down the $160 ASAP. 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm, House of Blues Tuesday, September 10 The most ambitious among us will be lacing up for some exercise on Tuesday morning in the “Run with the Sun 5k.” Thankfully, this event is sold out so nobody can force you to do it at this point- but if you want to have a coffee with me and watch some of the action, the starting line is at the Grand Plaza. 5:30 am – 7:00 am, ACC, Grand Plaza Courtesy: LG LG Electronics USA will showcase its advanced solutions for residential and commercial electrification through its mobile showroom for a third year. LG will present its Home 8 ESS and newly launched Home 5 ESS alongside a range of compatible HVAC products for commercial and home electrification. LG Electronics’ mobile showroom has been touring the country for the past eight years – I wonder how many empty Diet Mountain Dew bottles are inside? The mobile showroom will be located in the Arena Plaza, Space SV3, directly outside the North Entrance to Main Registration at the Anaheim Convention Center. 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, Tuesday and Wednesday, Arena Plaza Some heavy hitters in the vehicle-to-everything (V2X) space are coming together on a panel, including American Honda Motor Company, General Motors, and The Mobility House. They’ll delve into advancements and challenges in scaling and optimizing V2X tech. 11:00 am, 212AB Level 2 Anaheim Convention Center Bila Solar is announcing the launch of a new solar panel with an output of 520 watts that claims to be nearly half the weight of an average solar panel (24 pounds compared to a typical 40-50 lbs). They’re probably not going to let me lift one, but maybe! Wednesday, September 11 Anyone up for diving into the IRA first thing in the morning? The U.S. Department of the Treasury, Qcells, EDP Renewables, and others comprise a panel discussion called IRA+: What’s New in the IRA Era. Expect to learn a thing or two about renewable energy tax credits and how they’re being implemented. 9:30 am, 210CD Level 2 Anaheim Convention Center Solar power optimization company Enteligent will put on a highly-anticipated demonstration of its TLCEV DC-to-DC EV charger at the Microgrid booth on Wednesday. During the demonstration, the company will showcase the 25kW DC-coupled charger connected to a high-voltage DC bus to highlight the charger’s benefits for long dwell-time (more than 6 hours) EV fleet charging. This EV charger is the first to be powered directly by DC-source electricity, eliminating AC-to-DC conversion losses and resulting in up to 20% energy savings compared to traditional AC Level 2 chargers, per Enteligent.
